The A24 and A25 motorways, immersed in an extraordinary landscape, are a quick and convenient connection that joins the A1 Autostrada del Sole to the A14 Autostrada Adriatica. The A24 also offers the fastest and most direct connection to the city of Rome, advancing, like no other motorway, just a few kilometres away from the historic centre. But above all, both offer the possibility of a journey to discover an extraordinary territory, that between the Lazio and Abruzzo regions, which includes 6 natural parks and the Gran Sasso massif.
The A24 motorway begins from the Tangenziale Est of Rome, at the height of the Tiburtina station, crosses the north-eastern quadrant of the capital up to the intersection with the Grande Raccordo Anulare and extends for 281.4 km towards Teramo and Pescara. At the Torano directional junction (progressive Km 71 400) the network forks into two branches: one continues towards L’Aquila-Teramo (A24) and the other towards Chieti-Pescara (A25).
The A24 ends in Teramo, at progressive Km 159.2, joining the SS 80 for Giulianova, while the A25, 114.9km long, ends in Pescara, at progressive Km 186.4, connecting with the A14 motorway.
The route is characterised by 175 bridges and viaducts, for a total development of approximately 118.8 km: to understand the grandeur of these structures, just think that some of these viaducts exceed 100 metres in height from ground level. Another element that contributes to making the two highways unique are the 55 tunnels that meet along the way and that, with an overall development of about 70.8 km, represent 12.6% of the highway route: note that eight of these tunnels have lengths varying between two thousand and ten thousand meters.
The entire highway network is characterized by 2 carriageways, each composed of two lanes, driving and overtaking, and a third emergency lane in the open sections. In the urban section of Rome, near the junction with the Grande Raccordo Anulare, since 2014 the highway has been flanked by two coplanar carriageways with double lanes for a good 11 km, designed to separate long-distance traffic from the intense traffic of the Capital, making transit more fluid.

The A24 motorway is also equipped with a three-lane carriageway, for approximately 7 km, in the section between the Colledara junction and the entrance to the Gran Sasso Tunnel in the direction of L’Aquila, where the longitudinal gradient exceeds 5%. A three-lane carriageway is also present between the Via di Portonaccio junction and the Viale Palmiro Togliatti junction, both entering and exiting Rome, for a total of 3 km. The network has 2 barrier stations, 26 interchange stations, 10 free interchanges and 2 interchanges interconnecting with the A1 and A14 motorways, under concession to Autostrade per l’Italia: the possibility of access is therefore quite facilitated by the short distance between one station and another, which on average is about 11 km.
With 28 toll booths, 12 service areas, 6 parking areas, our motorways are travelled by over 262,000 vehicles with about 450,000 travellers per day: for this reason all the activities carried out by Strada dei Parchi have as their priority objective that of providing the best possible assistance in terms of safety, comfort and fluidity.
The A24 and A25 motorways are equipped with:
3 Motorway Safety Centres (C.S.A.) with 6 Maintenance Stations (Rome East, Valle del Salto, L’Aquila West, Colledara, Celano, Pescara);
